|Description:||The Tennessean is seeking people to edit and produce local copy and digital content for multiple platforms, write headlines for print and the web, and proof work. This individual exhibits a high level of proficiency in all areas and may produce specific website content and have specific areas of expertise.|
|Duties:||Read copy (stories, graphics, cutlines, postings, etc.) for accuracy, style, fairness, spelling, grammar and context. Edit and produce copy that meets standards on basic skills, including accuracy, fairness, credibility, ethics, math literacy, legal knowledge, clean copy and mainstreaming. Determine appropriate breakouts and refers. Proof pages as appropriate.|
Write accurate, engaging, easy-to-understand headlines with good key words and strong verbs. Write eye-catching headlines for the web, taking into account SEO and key word elements. Write web summaries and promos for sites and landing pages.
Ensure that photos, graphics, videos properly illustrate stories. Post stories, photo galleries, audio slideshows, videos, pdfs and other content. Create photo galleries, polls, or other digital content. Embed links to appropriate content.
Use SiteCatalyst to determine traffic patterns and adjust content accordingly. Use social networking to push content.
Respond to readers, site visitors.
|Qualifications:||College degree preferred, 5 years previous journalism experience, including editing and headline writing at a daily news operation preferred.|
Copy editing, headline writing, computer and web skills, research and fact-checking skills, and communication skills are required.
