Description:The Social Media Director creates a culture of collaboration, problem-solving and intelligent debate in the local community through use of interactive digital and print platforms. This person is invested in a variety of topics, ranging from public policy issues to local culture, sports and entertainment. The Social Media Director identifies and advances conversation generated by Tennessean content, while also tapping into and joining ongoing community conversations, and pitches ideas to Tennessean journalists. This person leads The Tennessean's efforts to stay current with the latest developments and approaches for online conversation and community engagement. This job is generally a Monday - Friday daytime position, but some nights and weekends will be required.
Duties:The Social Media Director is responsible for The Tennessean's main Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other key social media channels and directs strategy for subchannels and niche brands. Additional duties include the following: * Integrates multiple social media tools to enhance breaking new coverage and deploys the best community engagement strategies for The Tennessean's enterprise journalism. * Manages and promotes The Tennessean's collaborative problem-solving platform "Brainstorm Nashville" and its community blog network OnNashville. * Stays ahead of the curve on new social media trends and pushes The Tennessean to experiment with evolving technologies.
Qualifications:Prefer a college degree in journalism or communications, or equivalent amount of experience and education. An understanding and appreciation for local journalism, audience and marketplace are crucial. A proven track record of communicating and collaborating with external customers, including readers, business leaders and others involved with community issues. Deep understanding of social media techniques and tools and the ability to research and implement new practices. Experience with open source publishing tools, including WordPress and other content management systems. Superior written and oral communications skills are essential along with the ability to juggle multiple tasks on deadline.
